Job Description

The Director of Operations will lead internal processes and special projects for the company - essentially acting as project manager for all major internal and some external initiatives. They will be responsible for managing metrics and impact around all stakeholders and will work hand in hand with the CEO. This hybrid role requires a balance of remote work and in-person presence at our headquarters (Atlanta Tech Village), warehouse facility (Westside), and at markets throughout the city. This is a dynamic, hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high growth, and mission-driven environments and is passionate about food systems, sustainability, and equitable food access. This position is a key member of the team and will work cross-functionally with other team members and departments to ensure Retaaza’s mission and impact are communicated effectively in this new program.

Role Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee internal operations - ex. HR, benefits, team events, performance review process, administrative tasks, and scheduling (with assistance from program managers)
  • Manage hiring process, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Create workflows and playbooks so programs are repeatable and scalable.
  • Oversee team culture - building activities and ensuring the working environment fits the needs of the team (in collaboration with CEO).
  • Manage special projects - both large strategic projects and smaller activations
  • Collaborate on company financials with leadership team 
  • Track budgets, P&Ls, and impact metrics for projects and grants (along with program managers)
  • Fulfill various reporting requirements (ex. grants, impact, partners, etc) 
  • Manage B Corp-related standards across the company
  • Managing grant application processes
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Oversee intern recruitment and management
  • Work high level with Supply Chain team for visibility on orders, deliveries, and fleet 
  • Manage outreach with various stakeholders for special programs and events as needed
  • Ensure operations align with company goals and values
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and create proposals to support large-scale, future Retaaza projects
  • Represent Retaaza while interacting with cross-functional stakeholders inside and outside of the organization

Role Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6+ years of operations and/or business management experience
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Think constantly about how to streamline processes
  • Creative, out of the box problem solver - able to just figure things out
  • Adaptable, organized, and proactive with strong time management skills
  • Embrace a growth mindset to manage shifting demands in a dynamic workplace 
  • Manage tight deadlines effectively and positively
  • Access to a vehicle with permission to drive it, when needed
  • Clean driving record, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a startup environment or fast growth team
  • Previous experience with, or knowledge of, the local food or food justice movement, agriculture industry, and/or community organizations particularly involved in food
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of community-based services around sustainability, food security, and food waste
  • Previous experience with, or knowledge of, retail environments
