Ashli is a community health advocate with twenty-five years of experience empowering Georgians through trauma-informed education practices and hands-on support. Her unique journey—from educating youth and empowering individuals with health challenges to leading grassroots efforts addressing food insecurity and supporting nonprofit administration and operations—has deepened her understanding of the systemic barriers that keep healthy, nourishing food out of reach for many. This experience fuels her commitment to advancing food justice through hyperlocal food systems.
Ashli spent the last fifteen years building a personal chef business focused on Atlanta families with special dietary needs, using local food as medicine to improve physical and mental well-being. She also served community members through nutrition education classes that centered participants’ voices and provided meaningful tools for wellness. Additionally, Ashli led and managed a dynamic team of volunteers fighting food insecurity in Atlanta through the grassroots organization Free99Fridge. She also served on the operations team at Georgia Health Initiative, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to advancing health equity for all Georgians.
Known for her authentic relationship-building and passion for local agriculture, Ashli has cultivated long-standing partnerships with Atlanta’s farmers and artisans. Leading Retaaza’s MARTA Markets program affords Ashli the opportunity to help remove barriers to nourishing food and healthier eating while supporting area farmers by connecting them directly with the communities they serve. Outside of work, Ashli enjoys gardening with her husband, attending live music events, visiting Mother Ocean, and strolling through local festivals. Ashli is happiest on a steady diet of Georgia-grown summer tomatoes and cucumbers with fresh mozzarella sprinkled with sea salt. Cheese is her spirit animal.
