Cyd Keel

Cyd is a mother and land steward born and raised in Memphis, TN. They began their career in food systems back in 2019 as an urban farmer for a local nonprofit. What started as a simple curiosity quickly bloomed into a passion for creating robust, local food systems, particularly for those in marginalized communities. They have taught a number of gardening workshops as well as hosted wellness classes and food demonstrations for their community. They have also collaborated with their local community members to do volunteer food rescue work and provide free meals to anyone in need. Over the years, they have developed a passion for not only growing food, but also food and land justice and farming as a path to liberation.

After spending 5 years out in the field, Cyd took a step back from farming to pursue other passions, which include becoming a full spectrum birthworker and currently working towards becoming a clinical herbalist. Cyd continues to collaborate with the land and other land stewards. They are serving their second term on the steering committee for the Queer Farmer Network, which aims to build community and serve as a support system for LGBTQ+ farmers across the country.

Cyd finds enthusiasm in cooking meals for friends, making medicine, devouring books and spending time in their local state parks. In their free time you can often find them writing, dabbling in various artforms, or baking treats with their kiddo.
